Asahi Europe & International and Enery sign VPPA for renewable electricity in Romania

19 July 2023

Ursus Breweries, part of Asahi Europe & International (AEI), and Enery announce the signing of a multi-year Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA), providing renewable energy for the production of their beers in Romania.

Ursus Breweries will offtake power production from a new-to-be-built solar park, with a capacity of more than 50 MWp, located in Romania.

The deal supports Asahi Europe & International in our wider sustainability ambition to be carbon neutral across all the European breweries by 2030 and continue to promote additionality in our core markets.

Paolo Lanzarotti, CEO Asahi Europe & International, said:

“This latest agreement providing renewable energy for our breweries in Romania marks another important step forward and significant commitment towards our Legacy 2030 goal of becoming carbon neutral in all our breweries by 2030 and across our wider supply chain by 2050. Now more than ever, and together with our partners we are committed to creating meaningful connections with people and the planet”.

Richard König, CEO, and Severin Vartigov, CCO, commented:
