Austrian renewable energy company Enery acquires single largest PV plant in Bulgaria

Vienna, 11/09/2020, through the acquisition of the 60 MW PV plant in Southern Bulgaria, Enery, which is co-owned by its founders, Richard König and Lukas Nemec, and RP Global, becomes the largest owner and operator of PV plants under Austrian ownership, consisting of a total installed capacity of 85 MW in nine PV plants.

On the 10th of September, 2020, renewable energy company Enery successfully closed the acquisition of the ACWA Power CF Karad PV Park from ACWA Power, BlackRock’s Global Energy & Power Infrastructure Fund and the Clean Energy Transition Fund, managed by Crescent Capital. Built on 100 hectares the plant is the single largest PV installation in Bulgaria and among the largest solar power plants in Central and Eastern Europe. The PV park’s location in Karadzhalovo, close to Plovdiv in Southern Bulgaria, allows for a high solar irradiation and can reach a specific yield of more than 1,400 kWh per kWp with an installed capacity of 60.4 MWp, which is sufficient to power 22,300 households in Bulgaria.

“Bulgaria is a really exciting market for investments in renewable energy and especially for solar investments. Karadzhalovo is a cornerstone plant for Enery and will be a platform for expanding our activities in Bulgaria and for our Operations and Maintenance Center of Excellence. We are excited to strengthen our O&M team with almost twenty highly capable and motivated employees led by Stoyan Petrov. We will continue to drive the renewable energy transition in Central and Eastern Europe and are proud to say that already one year after inception we are now the largest owner of photovoltaic assets in Austrian ownership and one of the leading independent solar players in Central Europe’’
Lukas Nemec, COO and Richard König, CEO said in a joint statement.

Enery also acquired the O&M provider for the PV plant (NOMAC Bulgaria) from NOMAC Ltd. which is owned by ACWA Power. NOMAC Bulgaria, an important employer for the region, employs 18 people directly and another nine indirectly. The employees, who have been with the company for several years, are responsible for the technical management of the plant and are on site 24/7.

After acquiring six solar plants in the Czech Republic as well as two in Slovakia, this transaction marks a successful entry into yet another Eastern European market for Enery Development.
