Enery’s wind farms at Dorobantu and Baia show that the company’s contribution to Romania’s energy transition goes well beyond photovoltaics.
Over its first five years, Enery established itself as a key player in Central and Eastern Europe’s renewable energy transition. The Austrian company is best known for its broad and steadily expanding solar portfolio across the region. Less widely known is the fact that it also operates wind farms in Romania that make a substantial contribution to the country’s energy transformation.
Landmark Locations
The Dorobantu wind farm is located in Constanța County. A region of major economic importance to Romania, not least because of the Danube–Black Sea Canal. The plant has been in operation since 2011 and consists of 15 Vestas V90 wind turbines, each with a rated capacity of 3 MW. With total capacity of 45 MW and annual electricity generation of 87 GWh, the site can supply around 50,000 households with clean energy while reducing CO2 emissions by more than 18,500 tonnes each year.
About thirty kilometers away lies the city of Constanța on the Black Sea, a place steeped in history. Its origins reach back to the 7th century BC, when Greeks from Miletus founded what later became a flourishing Roman city under the name of Tomis. The poet Ovid spent his final years there, and in the 4th century the city was renamed Constantiana before growing into a port metropolis.
Progress Rooted in History
Some 60 kilometers north of Constanța, in Tulcea County, lies Baia – home to another of Enery’s wind farms. This park comprises seven Vestas V90 turbines with output ranging from 2 to 3 MW each. Together they provide a total capacity of 17 MW and generate more than 45 GWh annually. That is enough to reduce CO2 emissions by nearly 10,000 tonnes and supply around 27,000 households with green electricity.
Close to the site lies the Golovița Lake lagoon complex, a natural gem but also a site of significant archaeological importance. Finds from the Middle Stone Age indicate that the culture of the region once extended from the Mediterranean through Dobruja and northeastern Bulgaria.
Enery’s Social Commitment
Together, the Dorobantu and Baia wind farms contribute more than 60 MW of installed capacity and over 130 GWh of annual electricity generation to Enery’s Romanian portfolio, alongside photovoltaic plants such as Pantazi and Cluj-Napoca. Beyond driving the energy transition, the company is committed to social projects in Romania as well.
Among others, Enery supports initiatives such as Free Miorita, which brings light to Romanian households that do not yet have access to the electricity grid. Thus, the company’s role in Romania goes beyond clean-power generation and becomes part of a wider story of social and regional development.
